Welcome to the charting page for ProfitsOnWallStreet.com
The purpose of this page is to make it easy/simple to get your charts up & running.
You have two alternatives for charts:
ThinkOrSwim (free)
Or
TradingView. (about $50/month)
To succeed at trading, you MUST think like a business owner….don’t approach this with the perspective of a hobbyist…. and definitely do NOT approach this from the perspective/mindset/thinking of an employee; think like a business owner.
As a business owner, you HAVE to accept that a business has one-time, start-up expenses… as well as ongoing operational expenses.
When you’re starting out, it is expected that you’ll want to minimize your expenses. If you are inclined to want to start with ThinkOrSwim because of the price, that’s totally understandable. ThinkOrSwim (ToS) was originally the charting package at TDAmeritrade (TDA). In 2019, Schwab acquired TDA; in 2023, they started transitioning the TDA accounts to Schwab. At the time of this writing, you can still set up an account at TDA, but that may change by the time you read this, which means you’ll set up an account at Schwab.com; this gives you free access to ThinkOrSwim (ToS). With a “free” product, don’t expect lots of updates nor service.
You can find a 30-minute, “how-to” video on YouTube. Search YouTube for ProfitsOnWallStreet (no spaces).
Once ToS is loaded, send an email to Info@ProfitsOnWallStreet.com asking for the updated watchlist.
If you need help maneuvering around ToS, call the helpdesk at Schwab.
Look into a feature called OnDemand, you may find that to be helpful.
To answer the inevitable question:
I do NOT use ToS;
Lam does NOT use ToS;
Wen does NOT use ToS.
The other alternative for charts is TradingView .
In my experience, “most” of the people who start w/ ToS and then try TradingView, they stay with TradingView. If you can not see a monitor during the day, and can only see your phone, you will want TradingView. A big attraction with TradingView is that they listen to and act upon suggestions for new features & updates. With the pows community, we can get a lot of people making the same request, which raises the attention of their developers and, lo and behold, stuff gets implemented quickly. It’s the complete opposite of our former charting package.
To set-up TradingView, watch the 12-minute video below.
It references a few links, which are included below;
there is also a list of helpful keyboard shortcuts that you can review/download.
Remember - - 95% of this is "how to think"...
